Moosey, when you hold the carb's float chamber cover upside down, the float's line should be parallel with the cover's line. A "level" float. I hope Lee has fingernails left by the time you get your Jeep running---

Thank god we can stand by, if we had to hang on, my arms get tired!. lol...hope you are wearing comfortable shoes! Work is already draining me this morning. I might take a nap after my late lunch and before my teaching begins. The "big start" might get postponed until tomorrow.

Ass, thought you had Mules ? Finally. No, I haven't drained the puddle of fuel and got the jeep going. But finally this thread has gotten interesting! Now I'll wander out to the garage...after breakfast.

I am watching this thread (got a few to sit) with great interest. Nevermind Hajji's nagging and staring at bins of parts, a fully-built jeep that's bashing Bo has me growing more paranoid about my buggy and timeline. It will be a few days now until I can buckle down and get busy, BUT I WILL.

Jeep for sale. Cheap. I'm tired of this. This is zero fun. After mopping up the flood and resetting the float, the engine started pretty quickly...and very roughly. She ran for a minute spewing out a large dirty gray smoke cloud. I pulled the throttle out a bit and it seemed to smooth out. With about 3/4" throttle, the vacuum gauge read about 20, steady. Then she quit. i could get her to start somewhat easily, but it was always a rough idle and it never lasted long. I looked at the points and they had a burn mark. They did not have many miles on them...maybe 10-15. Installed another set, and got a decent blue spark. But then it disappeared. I earlier I went thru the test to check the condenser and it didn't appear to be the culprit. I checked to see if power was reaching the coil. Yes. I swapped out the coil with a new one. Smallish spark at points. Couldnt get the jeep to start again. Pulled the wire from #1 plug, held it close to the top of the plug and rolled the engine using my hand crank. No spark. Repeated this on #3. Barely witnessed an orange spark at the gap. So now I'm thinking it is time to chase an electrical gremlin. With the ignition on, points closed, I can take a screwdriver tip and open the points. Sometimes I get a spark, sometimes I don't. Never does the spark seem impressive. I can hook up alligator clips (with dizzy cover off) to the incoming coil wire on the distributor and the stationary side of the points. When points are closed, my multimeter reads 0.01 on continuity. When the points open, it reads 0.31. I would have thought I'd see infinity at that point. Also, I can move the alligator clip on the stationary side of the points top anywhere else on the distributor and it will read 0.28-0.31 for continuity. Would this indicate a potential internal grounding in the dizzy, thus reducing the strength of my spark? seriously, missing 3' putts is more enjoyable than this garage misery.

Forgive me. I just gotta ask. What voltage is the coil? Is it one with an internal resistor or needs an external resistor?

It's a 6 volt internal coil from Napa/Echlen. It's the exact same one that I've been using for 7 years.

Have you tried a different rotor? I had a rotor go bad and it was taking the coil discharge to ground right through it. I could touch the carbon center on the bottom of the distributor cap with a long screwdriver, roll the engine over with the starter and key on. Would jump a nice spark out of the screwdriver to the head bolt or valve cover bolt. Nothing coming out of the cap. Oilly
