I know this site is more about fuel than spark, but this place is a great resource. Ever since May, my once tip top jeep has been a pain in the arse. Side note...my carb is about to come and visit you Scout. anyways, I was checking the spark...little baby orange at the plug. At one point, I was pushing the 8 year old repro WW2 wires aside. I can't remember if I was moving the hand crank or opening the points with a screwdriver. Anyways, whatever I was doing to create a spark sparked me through the wires. I guess it arched out and zapped me. Upon inspection, the wires to the plugs are a bit cracked in areas. Jeep refuses to start. Weak spark at plugs. I got shocked holding the wires from the cap. I guess that's the first place to fix. any other suggestions? Whats your current turnaround time on carb's, Scout?

Hey! You want see a light show? Wait til tonite and try to fire the old girl up. You should be able to see sparks and arcs all over that ignition system. Hint. Hint. And don’t buy graphite core wires. You need copper-core. And avoid the aluminum post dizzy caps. Brass is better. Oh, and carb- uretor turnaround right now is about ten days.

Moosey, wait until you run those new copper core wires without suppression type spark plugs near your neighbors TV. Lol. Oilly Without suppression type plugs? Or are the wires suppressed? I've ordered a set of those sexy vintage repro style wires so I can maintain my authentic appearance when necessary. In the meantime, I'm looking at a basic silicone wrapped copper wire ones... Is that fine? If not, someone please send me a link for what I'm looking for.

If you want to operate a radio, you need suppression Spark plugs. I think they make wrapped black silicone copper core wires that are new inside, but look old outside. Vintage supply catalogs maybe? Oilly

Yeap! Sounds like your on the right track with new plug wires!! I run copper core wires with suppression plugs. It makes a big difference on the jeep CB and the shop radio, even tuned to Texas country 95.3 FM.

I like static. All copper. No suppression. And I'll 2nd that and add "With Pride". Im pretty sure the vintage Auto-Lite igniter would have little to no effect on a digital TV signal, most likely the Professor would agree, and Sir Rudy has the techno jargon to prove it!....... no need for a radio in a Jeep, it would only drown out the beautiful humm of the 134 and the fan.... What the F? Shouldn't these be easy peasy to find? Everywhere I look, they aren't in stock and have to be ordered. ...unless I want to buy an uber expensive set. I must not be looking in the right place. I'm kind of wanting to hop in my car and buy them now.
Am am I too impatient?

Tractor Supply Store...I always forget about them! Thanks.
I have been staring at the jeep a lot today. Every now and then she coughs like one cylinder hits but that's all I can get out of her. She is spinning slowly. I checked and rechecked the timing and certainly looks good enough to start. (Not taking in consideration the ignition wires and orange spark I mentioned yesterday. In a desperate attempt to make it start, I wrapped the cracked wires with electrical tape. Quite bubba of me.).
Lastly I checked my battery. After a turduckling of slow cranking, it's down to 5.93. I'm recharging it now. I never checked it yesterday...I'm not ruling it out as going bad, either.
While waiting for the battery to charge, I checked my ground cable to frame for continuity. It did not give me pretty little zeroes so I disconnected it and did some sanding. After several various spot checks, the grounding seems really good through out.
Yesterday after feeling defeated, I went to hang out with the WC. After sucking gas up the line to the carb, she hit immediately. Victory. As long as a tree doesn't land on her, she will now be Urban Recovery Vehicle #1 during the hurricane. Weasie to the rescue, Jeff! ...and her starter was spinning like a top!
