In the interest of ensuring no damage to newly installed bits.. Does any sort of priming need to be completed for first start after a rebuild? Pump still has clean fuel present. Removed and cleaned Carter ceramic filter so both filter and carb will be dry at reinstall/first-start without priming. Thanks.

Was the oil pump primed prior to installation?

Maybe? ( I see what you did there ) I didn't rebuild the motor but the oil pump was installed "wrong" and distributor is subsequently 180 degrees from "stock" orientation. Stay on topic, Rick!

I am on topic. You asked about a "First Start". I read, "Fresh out of Rebuild". To prime, the carb requires simply that when ready to start, pour about a tablespoonful of gas down the throat. Close the choke and crank. You may have to repeat a few times until the fuel pump has filled the bowl. A few false starts will occur in the interim. Unless you have a manual primer pump, in which case, just pull the manual lever through about a dozen complete strokes and return the handle to straight down.
