I think the smaller one is for the nozzle

Two nozzles should have come in the kit. The one with the single flat on the head is for the 539S and early 596 and uses the small washer. The other, with the double shoulder, accepts the large washer and is for late 596 thru the 636SA. Use a flashlight to look into the nozzle passage to be sure.
