Hey everyone, It’s nice to have a working fuel gauge, I was tired of throwing a 2 gallon container in back for every test ride and don’t like idea of putting a stick in the tank. The old tank sender kind of worked (resistance check) but it looked original and not trust worthy, so a call to RFJP on Monday got me a new sending unit by Friday along with a nice new parts catalog. The real problem was the gauge pegged at Full when key on. After reading Sean’s troubleshooting article on The CJ2A Page my problem was open circuit between IGN SW (6v) and ground caused by either fried wire or bad ground within gauge. I do have 12v system with ballast resistor feeding gauge. Apart came the gauge (very carefully), I got lucky, bad ground in gauge All working now and seems to be calibrated to right level of gas (2” of gas, 1/4 tank). What!!!!??? Working gas guage in a Willis??
Just kidding, thumbs up on a good job! I need to repair mine, I've ran out of gas twice in recent history......

Thanks Mark. I didn't know that ground was within like that. Note: if your sender came with a plastic float, it will fail. The metal swing arm where it snaps into the float groove will crack it at the pressure point of the loop end. Buy yourself a 1965 Mustang float. It will never leak since it's solid and has the same dimension and snap in groove. ebay has the float cheap! I keep one around now since ALLLLLL my plastic floats failed. White or black, didn't matter. John

White or black, didn't matter. John Thanks for the tip, I’ll check eBay for the Mustang float, the one I put in is white plastic. Yeah the inside of gauge wasn’t corroded, I think brass ground tab just got tired and needed a little “spring”. I’ll see about posting pic of can, can’t do in reply. Sean’s article is great had problem figured out before I even opened gauge, knew it was in the Empty circuit. Mark
