Working on a 59 Willys wagon need to know which is the vacuum ports and which of the fuel ports on a dual action fuel pump

Not knowing which pump you are referring to, generally speaking, the top ports are for fuel (one may even be marked “IN”) and the bottom ports are vacuum with the port closest to the block being the “IN” port.

I have a 1950 willys m38--I sent the fuel pump to kaiser willys to be rebuilt---took 8 weeks---I put the pump back on the jeep and it won't crank on its own---I can start it using starter fluid and it runs and drives good---but when I cut it off it will not start again without starter fluid----please help

Depending on the configuration and condition of the motor and its ignition system warm restarts may require some choke and slow opening of the throttle during cranking.

the jeep was cranking and running good ---i had the fuel pump rebuilt because i was trying to redo everything a little at a time i am not a mechanic but a wanna be diy---the fuel pump came with a thin gasket---could that have anything to do with my problem?

Is this a single-action or dual-action pump?

Hi-ya Pete, your orig post indicates you are working on a M38. We do not know if it is stock or not but the correct pump is this AC fuel/vac pump. It is designed to be used with a full 1/2" thick spacer and 2 gaskets. Attachments:

thanks for the reply---the fuel pump is a duel action but I don't used the vacuum part I have them plugged off because I am planning on putting 24 volt electric wipers on---could not having the 1/2 inch spacer on cause my problem----thanks
