A while ago I bought what I believe to be a NOS Carter WO 636 SA carburetor. Where it came from and how I found it should not form part of the discussion for now. I am interested in opinions, based on what can be seen in photos, on whether it is indeed NOS or not! Click on the pics for larger images...

Nice looking carburator. I have a similar one and it runs perfect. Besides the absence of of float bowl patents, the lower end of the pump rod has the clip instead of the turnbuckle and spring. Weren't those a later kit up grade Scout? Did all carter original carbs have the spring and turnbuckle affair? John
The rod clip was a later “improvement”. With regards the early wide spread use of the spring and clip, I believe they only came about for the WO series at first. Chevrolet seemed to like that design in particular.
