I appreciate and miss my jeep friends, you know the guys, the guys who suddenly appear on the trail when a hood pops up. Even if you just stand there and drink beer while offering advice, it's the commraderie.. Don't have that here on the busted spur, oh sure my pals will come around and drink a beer but they're cowboys and muleskinners they can sure cowboy but don't know a wrench from a muffler bearing.
Followed Oillys advice and dropped the colm far enuf to turn the box. Had to modify the puller jaws to engage as there's only +- 1/8" clearance between the pitman shoulder and the box face to slide in the jaws. I've got it snugged up tight with a healthy dost of PB blaster applied. No way in hell was that bastage coming off the easy way.

Glad to hear turning the Box gave you enough room to get the puller on. Not sure from your post if you got the arm off yet or are still working on it. Sometimes a sharp rap on the end of the puller shaft, while under pressure will make the arm pop off. Good Luck

Tapered, splined, or both and keyed are sometimes a peckeroid to get off. Heat? If you move to the Black Hills, I'll help. I'll bring a cooler of cold ones and sit and give free advice. ---------Until you smack me with the hammer.

Can't be neighbors Oilly-You would be in my shop every day lookin for a Mulekick. Never git shed of ya!
Pitman is off. Sector wont slide out telling me it's found a sweet spot in the bushings. Little or no bushing play, the pins show little wear-leave it alone! I'm not arrogant enuf to think I can replace a seal with shaft in place but still considering it.

Done seals in place many times. Wrap a piece of card stock around the shaft and slide the seal down over it. This will keep the lip from catching on the shaft. Deep socket or piece of pipe that fits over the shaft in catches the outer edges of the seal to drive it in.

Yep, just check the shaft for grooves/wear. Emory cloth to polish or if you can drive the seal a little deeper to seal in a different spot.

The new seal is installed, box is back together and everything snugged up. Installed a 7/16-20 tightsteer and adjusted-feels good lock to lock. While the jeep was apart I pulled the draglink cleaned and recond w/fresh grease. Tierods and bellcrank feel tight-not gonna open that cano'worms. Just a little play in the front hub bearings but don't have the large socket needed.

Bubba just uses a sharp chisel and hammer to set those big spindle nuts. That's why I usually have to buy new ones. Oilly (Hint: that big bendable washer that locks the nut, saw a small tab in it and bent that over. Much easier. )
