The pin looks good and the rod looks good. The rod setting may be too high. With the Steel Idle Stop Screw backed out to where it is not touching the boss is the rod fully bottomed out in the valve with no gap between the inside top of the eye and the pin it rests on? If there is a short in the starter button then yes, you may have a voltage drain.

Steel stop screw away from base, metering rod seated. It looks like it is perfectly centered around the pin. I thought this was correct based on one of your videos I watched the other night. Or have I confused my info? I do have a meter rod gauge I can stick in there to double check if needed. As I was putting the meter pin back in place, I checked the float level again. It was way off. I bounced it a few times and then it came down lower to be where it’s supposed to be. That was odd.

When the gas pedal is depressed the rod must move immediately. With a gap, it won't.
Inspect the tab on the float that contacts the pin in the needle. If you see a divot in it, remove it with 800 grit wet or dry. A divot will catch the pin in the needle and cause the assembly to be hung up in an open position causing flooding.

I went out yesterday morning before work to check the scoring on the float. In all of my excitement, after I removed the pin and float, I forgot about the spring and needle. As I tipped the top over and removed the float, the needle fell out into the the carb bowl…but the spring and pin were nowhere in sight. Typical Monday morning. Lol
My work area and garage floor are atrocious. Couldn’t find them and I needed to get to work. Typical Turocy maneuver. My dad would do similar things. Made me laugh.
Came home after work and crawled around for an hour on my hands and knees. Then the lightbulb moment- what if the magnetic bowl I used to put the bits and pieces in caught it? Yep, there was the spring and pin sticking to the underside of the bowl. Victory!
I reset the meter rod, put the carb back together and called it a day. Maybe tomorrow afternoon I can make some forward progress. 😉

I've (out of desperation) gone to a miniature "clean room". It's a carboard box with 2 foot sidewalls. The little bastages will all of a sudden fly away into the cosmos hit the sidewalls and land on the box floor. Ever try and blow out a jet with air only to have it fly out of your fingers, hit the wall and then not make another sound. Of course it's a unavailable NLA item? Work bench with coffee cans full of nuts and whizbangs? Pure madness. I feel your pain Moosey. Oilly

Oh Lee… we are in the midst of our version of a northern winter. Heat index’s routinely drift near 110* F. Ain’t nobody going outside these days except idiot golfers. People sure as heck aren’t going to go out to push a jeep! And definitely not my jeep! Those guys are fair weather friends, on a good day. 😂 As of now, the general consensus is leaning towards a failing battery. It showed to be weak when tested under load. I should hopefully be getting my new battery tomorrow. I’ll know something soon. Pushing things is about all I'm good for Bobo, and far as I know my phone works - or at least those folks from work seem to be able to make it ring easily enough! Been meaning to call you anyway bud, been thinking about you.

Lol…you guys just provided me a wonderful and much needed laugh with your little lost gizmo stories.
ok, so it’s even quite some time since my last post. A lot of “life” has gotten in the way. But between the low points, there have been some wonderful moments in and outside the garage. I’ll try to recap some of it…
I think a few of you know that my Dad passed away on Aug 9th and then we had a memorial for him on the 27th. The jeep was a project he and I did together 18 years ago. For 3 years we worked on it together. He performed so much of the work, but also taught me so much as we did it. The jeep means more to me than I could ever fathom. My romantic spirit compared his deteriorating health to the decline of the Jeep’s engine’s health. They were both the same for the last 2 months. It idled briefly for me an hour after I learned of his passing. That helped with my heart. And then I’m back to square one.
With the carb back together and being completely confident about the settings being correct, I tried it again. Same results- flooded manifold.
And while sitting in the jeep talking to Dad, an idea popped into my head…let’s check the health of the spark one more time. I affixed the in-line spark check adapter and disconnected the fuel line into the carb and stuck a water bottle over it. Closed the garage door and pressed gently on the newly installed foot starter.
And I saw a highly inconsistent spark pattern- bright, dim, dim, did I see one?, dim, BRIGHT!, dim bright. WTH?
So I started thinking I’m going to need a dizzy rebuild. But before we freak out, let’s replace the condenser one more time…although I’ve already done that twice. But, I’m out of new ones. I thought about swiping the one in the WC, but figured that was playing with fire.
My next idea is where to find another condenser. I do a bunch of cross referencing for old original part numbers. I head to eBay and low and behold, I can find them NOS. I bought a few quite economically and waited. In years past, I had no patience, especially with a broken vehicle. It really stressed me out. Welp, when my 70 year old condenser arrived, I hooked it up…the jeep ROARED to life. Did a few carb adjustments and she sounded AMAZING. I then had to take her on a glorious ride. Her engine has not sounded as good or as strong in a long while. It was an incredible drive. I had a heavenly Dad riding shotgun.
Thank you fellow knights.
humbly, Bo

And while sitting in the jeep talking to Dad great story Bo, sad but great. i have conversations with my late brother Bob all the time. we co-owned the m38, untouched for some 40 years. he passed away in '09 by his own hand (long story), it was at that time i began the resto. there was a lot of WTF Bob!, you dirty sob, what would you do with this and so on.. helped me get over my anger for the way he checked out. in a way, Bob lives in that m38., and within me because of it. glad you found the problem.. f-ing condensers!

Bo, sorry for your loss 🥲 I well know the “Dad Jeep Connection”…. I am absolutely delighted your stock of Chi-Com 10 for a $1 EBay Jeep ignition tune up kits has ran out!☝️😎👍🏽🥓🥓🥓🥓🥓🥓🥓 I told you 10 years ago they were not worth a $hit and you would not listen, your lucky to find NOS and I’m proud of you😂 If you cannot find NOS, Standard ignition makes the next best thing IMHO. Now have fun with it☝️
Lee😉

Thanks, guys. Seriously, thank you. On another emotional roller coaster level, my 18 year old son, Jack, just graduated from boot camp at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX. He is now at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, TX learning to become a firefighter.
