Do you know how the exhaust collector's heat riser valve works and why? Its function is to allow for a controlled warm-up of the carburetor. Hence, the fuel enters the manifold at the proper temperature and atomization for efficient burning in the cylinders. It starts with the valve open to the base of the carb mount. As the engine warms it slowly closes to the carb and the hot gases are channeled to the exhaust pipe. If it is stuck in the open position, excessive heat is transferred to the carb, and at shutdown the carb overheats causing the fuel in the bowl to boil. The pressure created by the boiling forces fuel past the metering rod and jet resulting in a flooded condition.
