Took my 2A W-O apart to replace the bowel gasket and adjust the float (was way to high) anyway if the Jeep sits for a week it cranks plenty to start, but once running it runs very well. So question is is the fuel evaporating from the bowl, or bleeding out the bottom into the engine as it sits ? Or a combination of both 😬 Lee😉 Not a drop in the bowel after sitting a week!

Evaporation is the most likely cause. If the garage is heated 24/7 that only hastens the evaporation.

All mine do it too. Good question to ask. What I've noticed even more is all the M38's with the top draw tank, take forever to crank the carb full again. WW2 Jeeps with the passenger side firewall filter too. Maybe that's the reason for the lever assist fuel pump on them.

That is exactly why I recommend pumps with priming handles.

Would it be easier (less wear and tear) on the battery(ies) and everything else if you fill the float bowl with a squeeze bottle before cranking?
I know, easier said than done on a YS (glad I have a pump with the priming lever).

That would be messy.

Using one of these directly into the float bowl vent pipe would be messy?

He may be referring to the tower of the bowl cover but from that high up it would be too easy to flood the bowl.

Sorry....was thinking of a different carb. Please disregard.

No problem. I'm afraid that barring the acquisition of a pump with a primer we just have to live with evaporation.

Just adding a follow-up to this issue, after resetting float level and replacing the cover gasket, as well as the intake and exhaust manifold, the Jeep runs much better and it’s put away in my enclosed trailer for the winter months, I did look in on it last week and I noticed not gasoline smell in the trailer as was common before 👍🏽 All good 😊
