Assembling a Dana 47A. I inserted the axle shafts and slipped on the spindles. There is a 1/4" to 3/8" gap between the spindle and the knuckle. I couldn't close it to save my soul. So. I pulled the new shafts out and laid them side by side with the old ones. The old ones were forged. The new ones are cold-rolled. Notice the obvious shoulder on the new one. It will not allow full insertion past the bushing/sleeve in the housing. It was suggested that I could pull the bushing for a proper fit, but I've decided to grind the shoulder off the shaft. I just pulled out the air powered angle grinder and took it down to the proper size and shape.
