One museum I really enjoyed was in Fredericksburg Texas themed on the Pacific War. I’ve been thru it twice and could go again. But as mentioned museums make me feel weird looking at vehicles the Army trained me to service. 1965 wasn’t that long ago was it.🥲 Anyway we are off to Keyhole State Park in Moorcroft, SD. Weather has warmed pretty good and the wind is laying low (so far).

Shack nailed it. That's the one I was thinking of. Been there a couple of times. Good distraction from the I-80 drive. Lots of old iron like what used to be assigned to me in another life. Those guys have built up quite a renovation shop there.

I’ve made note of that Mike and will stop by if it’s on our route back home. If there’s any other jeep related must-sees in MT, WY, CO let me know. I’m having Jeep withdrawals pain. LOL
Yesterday I was checking out a strutting tom and jumped what I first thought were deer. They were smallish and kind of motley colored. When they ran it was like a stiff pogo like gait. Is that typical of mule deer or were they antelope? Turkeys were weird too, looked like white tips on their wings, Merriams? (Sp.)
We are off to Tongue River Resevoir SP in MT today. Hope to stay there until Sunday.

Mule deer run like they have springs on there feet, most likely what it was, if you made it to Montana and have not yet seen antelope along the road you must be sleep driving 😂 You must be near the Custer battlefield, there is a big military museum in western Wyoming just opened a couple years ago, some of the lucky bastards on here have been there they can tell you where it is. I’m envious your out in gods country, enjoy it!.

Yep that’s what it was then a mule 🦌. I guess you just aim for the center and pay no attention the up and down. Lol Tounge River didn’t work so we scooted on in to Hardin. We did go by the Custer Battlefield but was too tired to stop. How did you know? You got a bug on me somewhere? 😂 We are angling north west from here, I think. Co pilot hasn’t decided yet.
Finally got to see a couple of jeeps. Outside of Gillette alonside I90 a old scrape yard has two old Willys pu’s sitting there. If you like patina they have plenty.

Well you can’t get to the tongue river in Montana without going past the Custer battlefield coming from the east… Hardin, your damn near to Billings, stop by the Shiptons Big R, the one on the west side of town, if they don’t have what you need, you don’t need it 😂 also the Texas Roadhouse in Billings is a fine place to eat. You could head south to Red Lodge and head over the Beartooth Pass if it’s open yet, great road to drag a trailer over 😂 several of us have done plenty of Jeeeping on the Wyoming side, and damn beautiful country to boot. Or head west on I90, stop at big timber and swing into Shilo Sharps and ask them how much to re-barrel my Sharps 😂

Lee my daughter has a friend who lived in Gardiner for a number of years and has moved back to SC due to her husbands health issues. She ie working on a list of popular places to visit. Bear tooth pass is one place mentioned. Texas Roadhouse.... we ate there in Rapid City a couple of nights ago, very good meal, best store bought steak I’ve had in ages. Is Big Timber a town? On I90 today the wind was bad. Coming straight out of the west. No joke traveling at 55mpg going downhill the truck downshifted to a lower gear just to maintain speed. What the hell, your suppose to coast going downhill. Lol We’re looking at some places in the Red Lodge area but will have to wait a week for them to open.

The best Military museum in the whole US of A is in Dubois WY. Just a little south of town. Over 400 vehicles on display, most in diorama's depicting actual battlefield situations. Several hundred maniquins in uniforms. And one of the most amazing firearms collections I've ever seen. Includes the actual rifle that fired "the shot heard round the world". The first shot of the Revolutionary War. Jeeps, tanks, jets, PT boats, halftracks, transport trucks, personnel carriers, helicopters, kayaks, howitzers, kubelwagans, staff cars, and an open-air boneyard of "extra" vehicles that you can wander through freely. What an amazing place.
Next I really recommend the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody WY. The grandest rifle collection I've ever seen. Lots of Americana items from the 1800's western US.
Both of these museums are worth a day each to view all they have on display.
Dubois has a KOA campground on the west side of town. Cody has a dozen RV parks to choose from.

Yes Sir, Big Timber is a town along I90 west of Billings, I doubt very much Bear Tooth pass is open yet, I just looked and it says typically mid May to October, last year it was the end of July due to a very snowy winter and flooding. As Mike said, the Winchester museum in Cody is a must see to any firearms enthusiast, there is also an Indian museum that is very interesting there as well. [/url
A shot off the Beartooth.

Lee the soft contours of the valley reminds me of the Going to the Sun road. Yeah I’ll be in trouble back home if I don’t make that trip. I found Big Timber last night on the map. I feel sure we will visit that area. Mike I am looking forward to the museums on our way south in a few days or weeks. Thanks for the tips. Scout pics will be coming if it’s not to difficult to load them onto the site. If there is room in a FWP area we may be out of cell service for a couple of days.

Gonna try to add a couple of pics. We are still in the prairie lands outside of Hardin MT on the Big Horn River. Found a FWP boat launch with A camping site. Will head to higher elevations Sunday or Monday. River level looks high, lots of debris floating down. Due to snowmelt?

We got home this past Monday. Drove over 6000 miles. Again we saw a lot of fantastic country. At first a lot of the NFS campgrounds were still closed due to snow, as were dispersed camping areas. Met some real nice local folks. First time to see moose in the wild, they’re kind of a gangly moving animal. But you know what I’m going to miss the most.... those western rib eye steaks! I mean those butcher shop steaks that you cook in camp. LOL. I have one every Saturday. If I were a rich man I would have one flown to me every week.
