At approximately 0804 yesterday my Duke (Dominion) Power stopped flowing. The company had warned of rolling blackouts because of excessive demand on their infrastructure. What a pain in the ass! I might have panicked. Instead, as I sat next to my burning Propane Fire Logs I waited patiently the whole minute it took for my Propane-powered Generac 240Kw generator to fire up and kick in. It did. I was able to carry on with my now-altered day. I did call Duke and a soft computer voice apologized for the inconvenience and told me that 17 customers were in the cold but that, don't worry, their crews were working diligently to restore service. Bullshit!
All I had was my cellphone. With the street power out, I also lost the Internet. No communication, no Cable TV, no computer. I got nearly the same response from my cable provider when I called them. But then, hey, they need electricity to function. Their system draws power from the grid at intervals along their service grid. Not their fault. Enough about my troubles.
What about the folks, like me, that depend on electrically powered medical devices to stay alive and well? The ones who don't have an emergency generator to take over when this happens? Some will die. But that's the new Green Pattern these days, isn't it? They say the world is overpopulated so why not get rid of the sick and elderly? They're just a burden on "Our Democracy". This borders on criminal activity. This is the softer version of the approach that Mao, Stalin, and the rest took.
Instead of taxing the power companies, and us, to death and sending the money through the laundry and into their campaign coffers, Congress should be funding a complete overhaul of the American Power Grid.
Power was restored at approximately 1410. Last I heard, these rolling blackouts are supposed to have a duration of about six hours. Yeah. Bullshit!
