Professor, the threads for the fuel hose inlet on my 2467S are suffering from old age and I'm wondering about the proper way to try and fix the problem. I want to attach my Carter fuel filter to it and figure this should be taken care of first. Thanks

You could try to chase the threads and clean them up. If the nipple screws all the way in semi-loosely you could use Teflon tape on the nipple. Just keep the first two threads clean. Really loose? You could use an 1/8th Male/ 1/8th female fitting with either Teflon Tape or thread sealer. Tighten as needed. Worst case, I could send you a good bowl cover.

Great, that's along the lines of what I thought I would try, but it's always good to get Flight Following :-)

Well. I see that it has already been about a year since I got to the engine part of my Wagon rebuild. Fired her up yeaterday for the first time in a couple of years more than that and it ran great and the carb fuel inlet didn't leak a drop after I applied the suggestions from the Professor, BUT (there's always a But somewhere). The engine only ran on half choke so suspecting a vacuum leak when I got back to the shop I started looking around and since the screws on top of the carb were the easiest to get to I started there. The first couple of them took about a quarter turn to snug them up but when I got to the one in the picture - no joy! Didn't even start to tighten, in fact I just grabbed it with a finger and thumb and lifted it out of its hole. It appears that father time has won the battle with the tiny threads so, like all who will read this in the future we would like to know how the Professor goes about fixing these little headaches - Airportops, Holding Shory.

Doesn’t Loc-Tite have a product for that? BW

Sorry to see this. My usual repair, provided enough metal surrounds the hole, is to drill, tap, and set a Helicoil. If however the metal is cracked there may be no saving it. Another bowl is called for.

Roger that, I'll see what I can do to save it. It is so close to being perfect I hate to lose it just for a little vacuum leak or one screw hole. AS ALWAYS - Thanks.

I see that I have left this sort of dangling so to wrap it up - all is well. After contemplating all possible drastic possibilities (mostly including buying interesting tools and things that I don't have) I went over to the Cut and Shoot Hardware store and bought a screw with a few more threads and the problem is solved. And the Wagon is finished (but we all know that will never really be the case).
