Ok. The facts Willy’s 4 cylinder F head engine. 12v with an alternator.
Carter YF carb.
now the story.
truck ran fine for years. Died on me in winter ( I assumed snow onto the dist as I was in the deep stuff).
about 15 min later it fired right up.
drove it down to my shop.
it ran for a while maybe 30 min without issues. Then I started having it die. It would restart some times. I parked it and used my other truck.
it has not run correctly since. I cleaned the cap and put a new one on. I have not changed points or condenser but cleaned the points. I replaced the rotor.
after that it ran and died again. I had a friend watch and we found the carb was leaking fuel ( stuck float I’d guess).
swapped to my backup carb and it ran. Cleaned the main and popped it back on. It ran for a little while then died and wouldn’t restart ( 5 min). I called it.
tonight I put a new battery in it ( old was 12 years old) and tried to fire it. No joy. Put some starting fluid in it. No joy.
As a one man show I put my camera on a spark tester ( inline) and didn’t see spark.
So I checked my coil and cleaned my points. Coil side thermal readings- 3.6 ohms. Side to center ( high ignition wire) 8000 ohms. It is a 12v internal resistor style.
does anyone have the numbers for what it should read?
this weekend I need to clean my shop but I’d like to get this running again. I’m thinking pull and clean the carb. All new fuel. And figure out the spark- coil to dist it has to be in there somewhere.
