Enjoyed our meeting. Funny how a guy wearing a Willys Overland hat was looking at my pickup eh? Lots of good history was exchanged and am glad to share it. Thanks for joining up here and welcome. Put on your thick skin, because the fellows like sarcastic humor. All in good fun. Oilly

Mike has Magnetic service station signs for the doors of his pickup. They make it look perfect. I told him of the story of myself as a 16 year old driving a IH tractor with pallet forks on a farm hand we used at the Chevrolet/IH dealership I worked at. I was pulling a non running tractor out of the shop next to the main drag through Sturgis. As I turned, you had to be sure the big cleated rear tire did not hook the tow chain. I was looking rearwards as the forks at the front swung about 3 feet over the curb, out into the street. The local Standard Station Willys Jeep service pickup was coming up the street and ran into the forks. They were at his hood height. They slid down the length of the hood and caught under the windshield. No one got hurt, but the poor pickup was badly damaged and the pin that held the forks was bent. I guess the driver of the pickup couldn't see the forks as they are thin and steel colored. Might have had sun in his eyes if it was late afternoon. He also had to have been very near to the curb. Anyway, a bad day for both of us. I don't think I ever saw the Jeep again. Happened about 1971. Rain moved in about 1:30 PM and the show broke up. I put my '61 Scout "Harv" and the '49 Willys pickup "Evanston" back in my shop and drove home in "Bugsey" the '43 GPW with the wiper going. Just as I got in my garage, it rained hard. The Whitewood car show is a annual event with no judging or trophies. Free admission and if you register, you get a post card picture of the street full of cars. People really like the no hassle feeling. No cost. You can buy tickets to win prizes, T shirts and hats that help fund it. The senior citizens sell a great lunch-----all you can eat , for 8 bucks. They were jammed. I didn't see one mask either.
