More accurately described as missing on acceleration. This condition is most often cause by fouled, carboned-up spark plugs. The spark plugs operate fine when idling and not under a load. On acceleration, as compression begins, cylinder pressure increases and the spark plugs break down or there was never a really good spark in the first place.
The old abrasive material type spark plug cleaners tested the plug under compressed air pressure to see if the spark was good under acceleration load. These old machines are few and sometimes far between and often expensive. Finding a plain and simple pneumatic/abrasive spark plug cleaner is easier. Clean, re-gap and re-install the plugs or replace with new ones.
