Glad to have found this site as there seems to be very little support for users of the old Carter carbs. I’m restoring a 64 CJ5 (my first Jeep) and still looking for resources. I found a link at early CJ5 forums and here I am. I’m finishing a engine rebuild and am looking at replacing a Rochester that some PO put on the Jeep and found what appears to be a decent YF 938D. Where do I get the best carb kit for this carb? I also wonder about what mods should be made for high altitude operation.

oldjeepcarbs.com/board/5/yfFirst off Chip, Welcome. Scroll down to Carbs and find the YF sub-board, lots of good reading there. There are a few good kits out there, i'll let "The Boss" Mr Scoutpilot steer you toward the right one. Nuley

Hello Chipper! Kits. Two choices. My favorite is Pete DeBella Jeep Parts. Your next best bet is Mike's Carburetor Parts. Just be aware that the throttle bores and shafts in these old critters may need to be repaired. High altitude operation. A full and complete tune-up, by vacuum gauge and not timing light, is your best protection. Secondarily, no Ethanol blends in your tank above 6000' MSL.
