Cool, I didn't think it would come out with the valve up against the head. Thanks for teaching us something. So, new top adjuster or try and spread it a bit?

I just spread the adjuster a bit with a medium size flat head screw driver. Tapped it with a rubber mallet just bit. Hopefully this will add a little tension to this adjuster.
I should have mentioned that I also put a rag around the valve I was working on so that if the valve spring locks fell off, they would be easy to recover. I also had my magnet handy just in case..

That seemed to do the trick for now - a least from an install perspective. Now I need to get it back together and run some tests.

Okay, I'm back from my testing and I can say that I think this motor is much more "dialed in" then before. No more tapping! I ended up adjusting the #6 tippet adjustment screw at the bottom split portion of the screw. My original outside thread measurement at the bottom was .360 and I spread it to measure .375. The tippet adjuster went back in fine, but with more tension then before - now you need two 1/2" wrenched to adjust. I ran through Bruce's procedure one more time and all the valves are at .016".
I have some busted knuckles, but I learned a ton this weekend about L134 valve adjustment and I got my distributor and oil pump back to normal. Most important, the jeep is running much better. I'm going to call this a success for the weekend and thanks to all the great advice from the experts on this forum and some personal emails that helped me along the way.
Fender is back on and my horn and lights are connected again.

Very nice!, I admire your desire for a perfect tune , most say "Good Enough", and "Perfect" is much more rewarding and only takes a little longer!.... Lee

I used this thread again today to adjust the valves in the '44. All good!

That Bruce guy is so bad he can't find his way around in the woods either. Especially when I'm telling him "the Correct way to go". Signed Lost Leaker
