Hopefully this is the appropriate place to offer alternatives to the official tool kit. Many of us rebuild our Carter WO carburetors. I have avoided removing the aluminum rivets/plugs because I don’t have the special tools to pull and reset them. The tool... T-109-42 or -43 On my last rebuild, I really wanted to get into these passages to make sure they are spotless, so I got creative. This is a very small pry bar I found at Home Depot. I sharpened the back side with my bench grinder. This works well to pull the old rivets. After cleaning, I needed to re-seat the new rivets. I took a scrap 3/8” steel rod, cut it to around 3”, then drilled a dimple in the end with a 3/16” drill bit. It was trial and error when determining how deep to drill. See the result below. This worked well, and looked identical to the originally installed rivets. Again, a decent option should you not have the actual Carter tool T 190-42 or -43 Tim

Tim, these are good alternatives. Thank you for your contribution. You are hereby promoted to Associate Professor.

I did what Tim suggested with my moulding pry bar and it worked well. For the rivets, I used the steel rod from inside the manifold heat riser since I was in there replacing it as well.
Thanks for sharing!

Sir hawky, well done. Now, since you told me your carb is now not with it's original rivits, I'll have to deduct 2 points off at the next concours show! Loose lips sink ships! Oil

Knowing him they're probably NOS rivets. At least he can claim that.

No fellas, not NOS on this one. This was the RFPJ parts kit. On one of my builds, I did spend the extra cash on the Carter Kit that Walck's had, but I didn't see a huge difference. Time will tell. I'm not a PURIST like some of "us" claim to be (See HG). You both know me...I've got nuttin that could pass muster with the concours croud.
